Plagiarism Policy

The Journal of Jurisprudence and Legal Studies upholds a strict anti-plagiarism policy and, thus, has established the following guidelines, outlining specific procedures and penalties to be applied when plagiarism is detected in any article submitted for publication within its scope.

Plagiarism is “the act of presenting someone else's language and ideas as one's own work without proper acknowledgment.”

Submitted papers must be original and must not have been previously published elsewhere. The author(s) are required to clearly distinguish any material taken verbatim from another source from their original text by:

(1) indenting the quoted material,

(2) enclosing it in quotation marks, and

(3) providing proper citation of the source.

Any text exceeding the permitted use threshold—defined as more than two or three consecutive sentences or their equivalent—or any graphic material reproduced from another source requires prior written permission from the copyright holder and, where applicable, the original author(s). In all cases, the source of the material, including any previously published work, must be clearly and accurately cited.

All submitted papers are subjected to plagiarism detection software to assess the similarity index.

Upon detection of plagiarism, the senior editor responsible for reviewing the paper will assess the appropriate measures to be taken based on the percentage of plagiarism detected, following the guidelines outlined below:

Similarity Score

The Journal of Jurisprudence and Legal Studies upholds a zero-tolerance policy for plagiarism. All submitted papers are subject to plagiarism detection software to assess the similarity index. Based on the results, the Editorial Board will implement the following measures

  1. Papers with a similarity index exceeding 40%—due to poor quotation or inadequate paraphrasing— will be rejected outright. Resubmission of such papers will not be permitted.
  2. If the similarity index falls between 15% and 40%, the paper shall be returned to the author for revision. The author must address all areas of similarity by properly inserting quotations and paraphrasing the text, even if citations are already present.
  3. If the similarity index is below 15%, the author may still be asked to make improvements or include appropriate citations. All outsourced content must be properly cited, including any paraphrased material
  4. The author(s) must carefully review the paper, insert all required citations, and adequately paraphrase any outsourced content. Additionally, the revised paper must be resubmitted along with a plagiarism detection software report, demonstrating zero plagiarism and a similarity index not exceeding 15%.
